It was Kristellnacht in Cologne and a group of demonstrators were thrusting fliers at art fair visitors. They claimed the site of the art fair near the railway station was a processing depot for Jews, gipsies , and homosexuals who were sent to the camps half a century ago. Others disagreed and scuffles broke out. A few hundred miles to the east, the Berlin Wall was being liberated and a thousand pick-axes tore in to its fabric.
