They used part of a Cameron endowment grant to commission the Detroit art critic Jonnie Gimlet to write both the novel and script. Ostensibly a filmed ballet about gender issues, it soon changes into an expose of the Frankfurt and Bangkok red-light districts and the drug barons who finance them. It begins: "It was Saint Valentine's night in Bangkok and the pink hearts were everywhere. It was also the first night of the Chinese New Year and fire-crackers spat into the blackness of the humid backstreets where the drains were clogged with chicken skins and the sidewalk bars that fronted onto the massage parlours were offering couples an all-night Happy Hour of 'four for two'. "Around every corner there seemed to be a dragon procession, moving with the precision of a reptile towards the inevitable bottle of Johnnie Walker whisky. Cymbols clashed against my jet-lagged skull. "Half an hour before, the sun had quit the CBD as the busy planet spun towards night and about the good times and the bad times. You see, I am an addict and travel is my fix. "If you are reading this on an interactive disc or digitised tape, you can key in "After Sex" and access the whole novel.
